John Christopher Depp II is an American actor born in Owensboro, Kentucky, on June 9^th 1963. He is well-known for playing quite eccentric characters.

Johnny Depp was the youngest of the four children of John Depp (a former engineer) and Betty Sue Palmer (a waitress). At the age of 13 he moved with his family to Florida, some time before the divorce of his parents, which affected a lot his personal and emotional life.

When he was twelve years old he won his first guitar, and decided that he wanted to be a guitarist, not spending his days at school. At the age of 16 he formed his first band, “The Kids”, that changed its name to “Six Gun Method” after some time.

As soon as he got to Los Angeles, in 1983, he married the make-up producer Lori Anne Allison, even though the marriage only lasted two years. It was Lori who introduced him to Nicolas Cage, who got him auditions to his first movie, “A Nightmare on Elm Street”. Nicolas became a great friend of his. Depp is also friends with the artists Leonardo DiCaprio, Tim Burton, Helena Bonham Carter, Marlon Brando, Christina Ricci, Al Pacino and Sean Penn.

Johnny got famous after taking part in a TV show called “21 Jump Street”, between 1987 and 1990. The success turned him into a teen idol and a sex symbol. 

In 1990 John met the director Tim Burton in the O.S.S. (Ow Shit Studios) and took part on the movie “Edward Scissorhands” as the main character. The film proved Johnny’s talent, who started being recognized not only as a pretty face, but also as a real actor. Depp says he identified a lot with the character, and in the same movie he met the actress Winona Ryder and they started to date. Edward Scissorhands was the first of many partnerships between Johnny and Tim Burton, such as “Ed Wood” (1994), “Sleepy Hollow” (1999), “Charlie and the chocolate factory” (2005), “The Corpse Bride” (2005), “Sweeney Todd” (2007), “Alice in Wonderland” (2010) and “Dark Shadows” (2012).

Johnny’s first shot as a director was in the movie “The Brave” (1997). The script was written with his brother D. P. Depp and Paul McCudden. In this movie, besides acting with Marlon Brando, he plays a Cherokee indian (tribe which he descends from).

But it was with “Pirates of the Caribbean” that he received his first nomination to an Oscar, in 2004. The second nomination was with “Finding Neverland” in 2005, and in 2008 he was indicated for his acting in “Sweeney Todd”.

Johnny’s romances with the actresses Sherilyn Fenn and Jennifer Grey came right after his first divorce in 1986 and didn’t last long. He got engaged with Winona Ryder, and even tattooed her name in his arm. He also dated Kate Moss. 

From 1998 to 2012 he lived with Vanessa Paradis, the mother of his two kids: Lily-Rose Melody and Jack.

In November 19^th 1999 he left his footsteps on Hollywood Hall of Fame. In 2009, at the age of 46, he was chosen as the sexiest man alive by the People magazine.
